Summer Meals Program for Kids and Teens!

This is not an HPIC effort, but we felt the need to pass it along. Please share it with anyone you feel might benefit from it.

This summer, hundreds of sites across Washington State are providing free meals for kids and teens! Places like local high schools, elementary schools, community centers, parks and apartment complexes, will serve breakfast, lunch and snacks for kids under the age of 18. It is open to everyone!

There is no enrollment or registration is necessary. Meal times, and days of the week will vary among sites, along with the actual meals served. To find a Summer Meals site near you: Call 1-888-4FOOD-WA, visit parenthelp123.org or Text MEALS to 96859.

Please welcome Donna Burns as the new HPIC Club Manager

HPIC was fortunate to have a number of wonderful candidates apply to be our Club Manager. We are pleased to announce that Donna Burns has accepted the position.

Donna has been a West Seattle resident since she moved to Washington with her family in 1997. She and her husband sold their home in Gatewood and bought a house in Highland Park in 2003. They quickly fell in love with the Highland Park neighborhood because of the location, lush Green Belt, diversity, and obvious sense of pride in the community.

In 2011, Donna became involved with HPIC, attending Zumba and Yoga classes, and became an official “Club Member”. She enjoyed the Harvest Dinner, wreath making, and in early 2012, joined the committee for the Wine Tasting dinner,(now “HPIC Uncorked”). Each year she has made a greater investment in the Uncorked planning committee, and continues to contribute to this strong team as a significant volunteer. She has found a family of dear friends at HPIC, and feels that the new role of Club Manager is a natural fit for someone who is already familiar with the club and its goals; now and in the future. The position requires someone who cares about the club, the neighborhood and the entire West Seattle community, and Donna has happily accepted this job.

With a strong non-profit background, working with the YMCA, Lifelong AIDS Alliance, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, and Seattle Public Schools, as well as running her own West Seattle family business; she is familiar with the spectrum of work that needs to happen in this job. She has a strong connection to volunteerism and is committed to give her time to this position with 100% dedication and love!
