Highland Park Uncorked – Volunteer! Become a Sponsor!

Our 7th Annual Wine Tasting Fundraiser is coming up on Saturday, May 16! If you’ve wanted to volunteer, now’s your chance.

Food: Prepare and deliver something savory or sweet in 75+ individual one-two bite sized pieces to HPIC kitchen day of event. Every year attendees of the event think that our delicious hors d’ouevres and small bites are prepared by professional caterers. But they are prepared by a cadre of Highland Park/Riverview foodies, and if you are one, join the fun. If you don’t have time to cook but you want to help, we are looking for volunteers to set up the food tables too.

Set-up: Friday, May 15th from 10am-noon. Move tables and chairs, put on tablecloths and other table accoutrements, help with final touches.

Photographer: We are looking for someone to photograph the event that enjoys taking pictures of people having fun with their friends (or making new ones!), tasting delicious food and wine, and winning raffle prizes. The event starts at5:30pm and ends around 10:30pm.

Please contact hpicwine@gmail.com if you want to volunteer or know a photographer.

Fundraising for building and site improvements

HPIC has been the recipient of several generous grants and donations. We have two raingardens, a cistern and a beautiful courtyard thanks to Rainwise, Sustainable Seattle, King County Green Grants and DePave (plus a lot of hardworking volunteers). Now, thanks to Northwest SEED, Solarize Washington, Artisan Electric and Puget Sound Solar, we are preparing the HPIC roof for installation of a donated 4.4 kw solar photovoltaic system.

The Courtyard installation required us to replace broken parts of the sidewalk – this partial replacement cost us just over $9000. The partial roof replacement, in preparation for the solar panels, will cost over $6700. These improvements, to support the tremendous site and building improvements that have been donated  to us, are necessary and significant. We will continue to improve the building and site through grants and donations – please help support your neighborhood club by becoming a sponsor of Highland Park Uncorked, making a donation to HPIC via the donate button on our front page or sending us a check (HPIC, 1116 SW Holden, Seattle, WA 98106).

Part of the new sidewalk replacement – wish we could do it all…

Preparing for solar panels – and for the rest of the roof when we save up the money.

2015 Highland Park UNCORKED – register online

On-line registration is now open!

If you have never been to one of our wine-tasting events (or have a somewhat hazy recollection), here is the overview. Each person brings a bottle of their favorite wine, priced at $15 or less. You are assigned a table. The bottle is placed in a brown paper bag, given a number and eventually placed somewhere on your assigned table. You don’t worry about that, as you relax with the wines from the award winning Northwest Wine Academy, mingle with your neighbors, and munch on a wonderful spread of food prepared by our talented gastronomes.

For much more information, please go to our About the Event page.

The tables fill up fast, so register now to ensure that you have a seat.

Become a sponsor! Each sponsorship level includes between one and ten admissions! And now that HPIC is a recognized by the IRS as 501(c)3 nonprofit, your donation may qualify as a charitable deduction for federal income tax purposes.

Lots of great prizes have been donated for the raffle drawings, so be sure to bring some cash or credit cards to buy tickets.

New this year – The Wine Aroma Challenge! Reggie Daigneault of the Northwest Wine Academy will be setting up the same challenge that she gives students in her Sensory Evaluation class. There will be neutral wines infused with aromas that are commonly found in wine. For $20 you can test yourself and get a chance of winning a case of wine!

Did you know that the HPIC is owned by the neighborhood and run by members of the club, who volunteer their time? We are the ONLY club in Seattle like this, making Highland Park a truly unique place to live. A community creates a sense of camaraderie, belonging, security and support and the club is here to support the spirit of community by bringing neighbors together for wonderful events like UNCORKED, Corner Bar, Tailgate parties, weekly classes and special events.

All proceeds from Highland Park UNCORKED go towards improvements for your Highland Park Improvement Club.
