Ruth McRee and David S. Klein portray two old friends coping with age through humor and straight talk. Produced by Playworks and directed by Paul O’Connell.
This is HPIC’s first collaboration with Arts Crush, a consortium of arts groups who coordinate a month long festival spotlighting theatre, music, literature, dance, visual art, film and more. The performance lasts about 40 minutes and is followed by a discussion with the actors and the director about the issues in the play.
And don’t forget Zumba! Sunday morning, 10am.
Lumpia World, Curry Now and Charlie’s Buns transformed the HPIC parking lot, serving yummy food at our neighborhood crossroads. There was a steady stream of customers all day.
Pods for the Winter
As the chilly temperatures decend upon us, you might be thinking that it is the end of food truck season. Far from it my foodie friends! The trucks are just getting better! We are starting to see some Portland-esque pods developing, with one stop shopping. Think of it has a mini food truck event without the lines. Here’s a little info on [three...we only included ours! Go here for the full article] of the most popular spots for your weekday AND weekend munching pleasure.
Neighborhood: Highland Park/West SeattleExact Location:

Currently two trucks on Saturdays from 11 am. – 3 pm. (perhaps later if people keep coming!) but they are hoping to add another truck or two. Also in the plans – kids activities and live music. They also have covered tables and chairs, just in case there’s drizzle. Plenty of street parking and there’s a park down the street with non-stop kids soccer games, just in case you need a little extra entertainment. The Trucks:

Highland Park, Riverview and all around! Come out and get some yummy hot food on Saturdays, rain or shine. Meet friendly folks in a spot that is becoming a focal point for the neighborhood! What a great opportunity for us to have good food nearby again! Support our pod!

What a feast we had, so much to choose from: roast chicken, pot roast, pork roast, fried green tomatoes, squash with spicy pepitas, cranberries and bleu cheese; brussels sprouts with pancetta, corn souffle, beet salad, zucchini fritters, scalloped potatoes, baked spaghetti, fresh baked challah, apple pie, blackberry cobbler, cookies, cupcakes, chocolate cake…and more!
Plus attendees brought a dinner plate to leave behind and help stock the community kitchen we are building. So the plate you brought will be serving folks (and you!) for years to come. And they are nice plates!
After dinner we had entertainment from members of Twelfth Night Productions:

Very fun! And our old upright piano got to join. Next Saturday, October 15, is Twelfth Nights’ annual fundraiser. For more info, check their website.
Ahmed Raw and the African Knights (website) closed out the evening with a mix of original world music and cover tunes, with very much heart and energy.

Thank you all, so much!
There was a steady stream of customers from the opening at 11am till closing at 3pm, and the proprietors of both Lumpia World and Curry Now said they had a good day. Derrick of Lumpia World envisions an on-going pod of several food trucks in our parking lot, and we think the neighborhood and folks from all around will love it!
They plan to be at HPIC regularly on Saturdays, so come out and support good food in the neighborhood, and have yourself a tasty meal. There are sheltered tables and chairs, and a very good chance of running into friends.
